This article explores the radical psychological transition from the ‘Overworld’ to total submission. It examines how rituals of deprivation and the shedding of social roles allow a slave to find his true self. Beyond the hierarchy, it reveals a deep symbiosis where surrendering liberties leads to the ultimate freedom of being oneself within a bond of trust and loyalty.
The topic of how a slave arrives, and how they enter my space, has surfaced time and again in my writing. Until now, I’ve only touched upon it in passing, never truly dissecting the mechanics behind it. However, while revisiting the first part of the ‘The 24/7 Experiment – 2005 Enslavement Diaries‘ with Slave Stephan, I felt compelled to address this properly.
The arrival is more than a logistical event – it is the moment the “Overworld” ends and the “Underworld” begins.
The Gateway to Submission
Many slaves find the abrupt transition difficult. In everyday life, they often have to embody a dominantly socialized “Self” – be it as a manager at work, an ambitious student at university, or a responsible family member. This role demands constant decision-making, control, and strength.
The desire to find their true self – the devoted slave who submits consistently and exists to serve, to be used, and occasionally to suffer – is often tinged with shame or uncertainty when the transition is not clearly defined.
Rules and rituals, or in other words, the Protocol, are a vital tool here, as they are in many aspects of BDSM. They act as a psychological lock, providing stability for both sides and reminding everyone involved of the station they hold within this voluntarily chosen social structure.
The Trap of Politeness: Why the Master is Not a “Host”
From experience, I can say that the transition is much smoother if the Master-Slave level is the decisive one from the very first second.
Looking back at the “24/7 Experiment,” I describe how, 20 years ago, I still picked up the slave at the airport and we had a trust-building conversation in a restaurant before I took him home. Today, I consistently try to prevent such scenarios.
Anyone who knows me knows that I always say trust is the absolute basis of good SM. But this fundamental trust must be built BEFORE the start of a vacation enslavement, a long-term test, or a session – through conversations, chats, or neutral meetings. And even more crucially, it must then be further developed and manifested through the experience of living together.
The First Second Decides
The moment the guy arrives as a slave, he must not encounter the “friend Marc” first, but MasterMarc.
- No soft transition: If someone comes to me to be a slave, they must know and feel from the first second that they are a slave.
- No hospitality: A slave is not a guest. He is not “received” – he is “taken over.”
- Psychological clarity: If I pick him up at the airport and we chat about the weather or the journey, I am feeding his bourgeois ego. I am confirming his role as an equal partner in conversation. This makes it much harder for both sides later to switch into the absolute station of Master and property.
My life situation as a Master has changed fundamentally compared to the trial with Slave Stephan 20 years ago. Today, I am in the fortunate position of having a 200 m² dungeon and am no longer dependent on playing in my private apartment. It’s not primarily about the toys or the equipment one accumulates in such rooms.
The ambience is much more important. It is the conscious escape from “normal” everyday life. My dungeon is located on the second basement level – a circumstance that physically reinforces the mythologically influenced term “Underworld” used in the title.
The Crossing as Transformation
The descent into these rooms is much more than just a walk into the cellar. Drawing on mythology, this crossing is often associated with a transformation of the old ego and a rebirth as a new being:
- Sociologically: “Disappearing into the Underworld” marks the conscious break of contact with the “normal” society of the Overworld. The rules from outside no longer apply down here.
- Psychologically (according to C.G. Jung): It is the descent into the world of the unconscious. A place where we store our hidden desires and urges, which we must suppress or hide in everyday life – in our “role” in the Overworld.
This “descent” allows the slave to get to know his TRUE SELF, beyond social upbringing and far from any bourgeois mask. When the door of the dungeon on the second basement level clicks shut behind him, there is no turning back to the role of the free citizen. He has arrived at the station he was created for.
Charon’s ferry, used to cross the Styx, is a private elevator in my setting. It leads from the underground garage even further down into the second basement level – directly into the dungeon. This is the actual moment of transformation.
In the confined silence of this elevator, the slave performs the most radical act of his arrival: he strips himself completely. He discards the clothes of everyday life – the last protective layer of his bourgeois role. Clothing, jewelry, phone, and all other personal belongings are placed in a waiting metal box, which is then locked.
Afterward, the slave kneels in the waiting position I have defined: naked, head to the floor, his backside facing the elevator door. This ritual is about physically stripping away the mundane. Through total nakedness and the surrender of all personal property, he delivers himself up completely.

A crucial point in my philosophy is that this step takes place alone and voluntarily. The slave is isolated between worlds at this moment. There is no direct pressure from my physical presence. This moment of silence is important so that he can go within. He should become aware: Why am I here? What am I here, and what station do I hold?
I often deliberately take my time before opening the elevator door to the dungeon. This phase of quiet, uncertainty, but also anticipation, intensifies the focus. It has happened that new slaves got “the jitters” at this moment. Since they are alone in the elevator, they have the option of simply going back up. They can abort without the loss of face of direct contact. But whoever stays down and waits for the door to open has made their choice. He has paid his obolus and is ready to enter the Underworld.
No Encounter at Eye Level
The first thing I see of a slave when the door opens is his ass – as I often say: his “best piece.” This position is essential for both sides. From the first second, it is clear: no equal is arriving here to be met at eye level. A slave is arriving who subordinates himself and for whom I take full responsibility from this moment on.
The moment that follows is characterized by a deep silence that unites two seemingly contradictory but inseparable elements:
- Total Submission and Deprivation: First, the chains are put on the slave. This act unmistakably symbolizes the loss of his freedom and his rights. With the application of a mask, the deprivation is completed. This conscious withdrawal of the senses – sight and often speech – strips the boy of the last feeling of control. He is now completely dependent on my guidance.
- Safety and Security: At the same time, this moment is also characterized by a form of tenderness. A caress signals safety and a sense of protection to the slave. He should feel that he is safe in his service to me. Of course, I often combine this directly with a firm slap on the ass or an initial squeeze of his balls. The slave realizes immediately: tenderness can also be painful here – but it is always meant positively and serves to strengthen our connection.
In this first phase in the dungeon, the foundation for everything else is laid. The slave is now empty of the Overworld, deprived of his senses, but filled with the physical presence of his Master.
For new slaves, the path to the inspection now. For slaves I already know, the path leads on their knees to the next ritual: the reception of the collar. But that is a topic for another time.

Two Sides of the Same Coin: The Symbiosis of Service and Friendship
A crucial aspect that many misunderstand: radical submission at the threshold does not exclude friendship. On the contrary. Once the slave has arrived in his station and the protocol has poured the foundation, there is room for the human element.
I want my slaves to realize that friendship and being a slave are not two different lives to switch between – they are two sides of the same coin. For me, slaves who serve me sincerely are also always friends. I see it as my responsibility to be there for them at any time – far beyond the dungeon.
This realization is often the greatest relief for a slave: he doesn’t have to leave his “Self” behind in the elevator; instead, he brings it into a form where it is completely safe under my protection and within my friendship. Obedience and loyalty are the price, but security, safety, friendship, and the opportunity to live out what one feels, what one truly is, is the reward. The slave gives up liberties to gain the freedom to be himself.
The End of the Journey – The Beginning of Being
I know I have written a lot here for what seems like a short moment, but believe me: this transformation process is crucial for what follows. Take your time and, as a Master, do not rush. The slaves are heavily preoccupied with themselves at this moment. Surrendering oneself goes against human nature. These are moments in which we humans, as predators, like to become flight animals.
The silence, the tender physical contact, the music in the background, the shackles, and the deprivation – these are all stirrups that help the slave strip away the Overworld with its expectations and obligations and enter his sub-headspace. At this moment, it is not about the Master, but about the sub. At this moment, the Master is only the ferryman who enables the crossing. It is the moment a “boy” becomes a slave. It is his journey to his inner self, into the world of urges, but also into the world of trust.
Welcome home, boy – here at my feet!
