Honestly, sometimes when I talk to people abroad about this, I feel ashamed for my country. It shouldn’t be possible to restrict freedom of expression and individual liberty for gay people and others. And the people of Russia are involved in this somehow, because becoming more and more apolitical is like agreeing and opening the gates for our president to do whatever he wants.
Back in the day, I first started supporting protests on social media. I did that for a while, having long talks with my subscribers about the situation, how to support activists against things like the constitutional amendments, and of course, about our government’s crimes.
In summer 2020, I finally dared to visit a real-life activist meeting. Everyone knows it’s dangerous, and I was scared, but I knew I had to do it. Since then, I’ve been going to almost every anti-lawlessness meeting. As you know, I got caught by the police at one of them and received a huge fine.
Since then, I’ve been to many meetings. Now, I’ve even started thinking about organizing my own actions, similar to what Pussy Riot did years ago. They inspired me deeply with their conscious protests, and every one of their actions had a deeper meaning.
MasterMarc: Do you want to tell us what kind of protests you’re planning?
Davey: So far, my thoughts aren’t fully formed. There are only certain ideas, but I won’t talk about them yet. To summarize my reasons: first, they’re not concrete yet, and second, it’s very dangerous to talk about it openly, because protest, especially for the authorities in Russia, is the most deadly of all sins.
MasterMarc: What’s the situation like for gay people in Russia right now?
Davey: The situation for LGBT rights in Russia is truly deplorable. I’m lucky I live in a large and tolerant city, St. Petersburg, where society’s homophobia doesn’t limit my self-realization much.
But most places in Russia are less like cities and more like villages, where everyone knows each other. Usually, the worse a person lives, the less desire they have to improve. Such people just go through their days, sometimes trying to survive, and they absorb what they’re told on TV without analyzing it. The task of Russian propaganda television is to say that our system of power isn’t to blame for problems, but external enemies (including the United States with its LGBT “sabotage”). In Russia, gay people can be killed, raped, or tortured with complete impunity, accused of corrupting society. But I must say, no matter what homophobia the Russian government tries to promote, the situation is still improving: people have the Internet, where they no longer see just one point of view.
MasterMarc: Let’s hope that time, and of course, all the protests trying to open your compatriots’ eyes, will change the situation for the better. I truly admire that a young guy like you is fighting for his rights and the liberties of others. But now, I’d like to shift back to your activities as a cam boy. How did you start as a cam model? Who gave you the idea, and how did it happen? Where do you work?
Davey: The idea to do webcam shows came when I was looking for a way to pay a 12,000 ruble apartment debt.
